Add - Insert - Replace - Delete a monomer

These basic editing functions can be invoked in different ways to make sketching easier.

    Canvas

    If hidden

    • Click on the panel selection drop-down images/download/thumbnails/1806040/pri_view_dropdown.png button at the top left of the Canvas.

    • Select the Canvas View to render the macromolecule sequences.

{info} The Canvas View is only available in the Primary (top) view.

Add a monomer from the Monomer Library

    1. Click on the monomer in the Library.

    2. While holding the mouse button drag the monomer to the canvas.

    3. Release the mouse button at the desired position.

Append/prepend a monomer from the Monomer Library

    1. Click on the monomer in the Library.

    2. Drag the monomer to be added from the library onto the left or right edge of the component rectangle.

    3. A preview shows the position.

    4. Release the mouse button at the desired position.

    Append a monomer:

    Prepend a monomer:

    images/download/thumbnails/1806040/add_monomer_step2.png

In case of nucleotides, adding a base results in appending the corresponding nucleotide containing the default sugar and linker.

    images/download/attachments/1806040/RNA_append_nucleotide.png

Dragging a sugar onto the phosphate end will expand the sugar-phosphate backbone with the corresponding sugar only.

    images/download/attachments/1806040/RNA_append_sugar.png

By appending a linker, the sugar-phosphate backbone will be expanded with the default sugar and the selected linker.

Insert a monomer from the Monomer Library

    1. Drag the monomer to be inserted from the library onto the bond where you want to insert it.

    2. A preview shows the position.

    3. Confirm the insertion by releasing the mouse button.

    images/download/attachments/1806040/add_monomer_step3.png

Replace a monomer from the Monomer Library

    1. Click on the monomer in the Library.

    2. Drag the replacing monomer from the library over an existing monomer of the same type on the canvas.

    3. A preview shows the resulting sequence.

    4. Confirm the replacement by releasing the mouse button

    images/download/attachments/1806040/add_monomer_step4.png

{warning} Bonds using attachment points of the original monomer, which are not present in the replacing monomer, will be deleted.

    Delete a monomer

    1. Select a monomer

    2. Press delete button images/download/thumbnails/1806040/delete.png or 'Backspace'/'Delete'

{warning} Deleting a sugar monomer in nucleic acids will delete the entire nucleotide.

    Sequence View

    If hidden

Click on the panel selection drop-down button at the top left of the Canvas or Secondary view.

Select the Sequence View to render the macromolecule sequences.

    images/download/thumbnails/1806040/panel_selection_drop-down.png

Every macromolecule's natural analogue sequence is displayed in the Sequence View. Unnatural building blocks are coloured in blue.

Sequences can be edited by typing the corresponding single-letter code of the natural building block.

The corresponding sequences are listed below each other with their component types (e.g. PEPTIDE, RNA) and component names. The component names can be added by typing and will be rendered in the component block.

Insert sequence residue(s) from the Sequence View

Select the sequence you want to modify.

Type the one-letter code for the sequence residue to insert it. The canvas display will update with a short delay after you stopped typing.

Replace simple monomers from the Sequence View

Select the sequence you want to modify.

In the Sequence view select the monomer(s) to be replaced.

Overwrite with the single-letter code for the replacing monomer(s). The canvas display will update with a short delay after you stopped typing.

{warning} Please note that while bonds are typically preserved, those using attachment points of the original monomer, which are not present in the replacing monomer, will be deleted.

Delete simple monomers from the Sequence View

Select the sequence you want to modify.

In the Details panel select the monomer or place the text cursor right before or after the monomer to be deleted.

    Press 'Delete' or 'Backspace'.
