Drawing Styles
Drawing parameters can be collectively set by applying a style.
MarvinSketch provides a built-in default style (Chemaxon style), which includes a small set of journal styles based on drawing parameters of some well-known scientific publications.
Additionally, MarvinSketch stores newly created user-defined journal styles.
Drawing Styles in MarvinSketch
The following pre-defined styles are available in MarvinSketch:
- ACS
- Advanced Synthesis & Catalysis
- Angewandte Chemie International Edition
- Elsevier
- European Journal of Organic Chemistry
- Helvetica Chimica Acta
- Royal Society of Chemistry
- Small
- Synlett
- Synthesis
- Tetrahedron
Loading a Style
- Open the Document Style Settings dialog by selecting File > Document Style > Settings.
- Choose from the available styles by using the Journal style preset drop-down list.
- Click OK. The chosen style is applied to the whole document.
Restoring Default Settings
- Open the Document Style Settings dialog by selecting File > Document Style > Settings.
- Click the Restore to defaults button.
- Click OK.
Applying Drawing Parameters
- Open the Document Style Settings dialog by selecting File > Document Style > Settings.
- Set parameters in the Font Settings and the Size Settings pane.
- Click OK. The chosen parameters will be applied for the whole document.
Creating/Saving a New Style
- Open the Document Style Settings dialog by selecting File > Document Style > Settings.
- Select Custom from the Journal style preset drop-down list.
- Set the drawing properties.
- Click Set style name.
- Type a name for the new style in the Save Style dialog.
- Click OK.

Existing styles cannot be overwritten in the Save Style dialog.
Saved files are stored under the chemaxon/journal_styles/
directory of your home directory.
A style file can be added to the chemaxon/marvin/journal_styles
directory under the Marvin installation directory. This new style file has to be listed in chemaxon/marvin/styles/styleFileList.properties
.
The new style files are copied to the chemaxon/journal_styles/ library
in your home directory and appear in the drop-down list of the Journal style pane.
